It’s The Most Wonderful Time Of The Year…

Okay, far from it. However, the Fighting DeChellises will take the floor tonight for their one and only exhibition of the basketball season against Division II Slippery Rock. Given the recent string of upsets by D2 programs against Big Ten teams with Grand Valley State and Findlay College garnering upsets over MSU and OSU respectively, it’s imperative that PSU starts off on the right foot. Last year, Geary Claxton broke his hand in the first exhibition and we subsequently went on to lose to Shippensburg in the second exhibition which marked the beginning of a giant clusterfuck of a 2006-07 season.

I am actually in the process of working on a basketball preview. You can expect it to be up before the regular season opener against St. Francis on Monday.

In the meantime, you can watch tonight’s exhibition for free online

  • The amount of man-to-man defense played as opposed to the 2-3 zone that firmly entrenched us in dead last in most Big Ten defensive statistics last year
  • The increased athleticism that Stanley Pringle and Talor Battle will bring running the point
  • Will anyone off the bench step up and earn the injured Jamelle Cornley’s starting spot at the power forward position?
  • Andrew Jones:  Can he be a force down low?
